讲座摘要：

Chinese cities stand out for their notably short urban commutes in sharp comparison to international counterparts. This study investigates two key determinants: travel aversion (a dislike of lengthy commutes) and location adaptability (the ease of adjusting residential and workplace locations). We disentangle their influences by integrating travel mode and residence-workplace location choices into a quantitative spatial framework and leveraging a novel, large-scale dataset detailing commuting flows, modes, and time for over 5 million bilateral routes in 264 Chinese cities. Overall, the rapid decay of commuting flows with travel time is primarily driven by high location adaptability. However, the relative importance of these two factors differs across cities: while most medium and small-sized cities exhibit strong location adaptability, megacities like Beijing and Shanghai demonstrate pronounced travel aversion. Further analysis links travel aversion to a city’s demographic characteristics and environmental amenities, and reveals notable association between location adaptability to the city’s spatial organization of jobs and housing supply.

中国城市通勤时间显著短于国际同类城市的特点非常突出。本研究聚焦两个关键决定因素：出行厌恶（对长通勤时间的抵触）与选址适应性（住宅与工作地点调整的便捷度）。我们通过整合出行方式与居住-工作地点选择构建量化空间框架，并利用覆盖中国264个城市、包含500多万条双向通勤路线的新型大规模数据集，深入剖析其影响机制。总体而言，通勤流量随出行时间衰减的快速趋势主要由高选址适应性驱动。但这两个因素的重要性在不同城市存在差异：多数中小城市展现出较强的选址适应性，而北京、上海等特大城市则表现出明显的出行厌恶特征。进一步分析发现，出行偏好与城市的群体特征和环境设施存在关联，并揭示了选址适应性与城市就业岗位和住房供应空间布局之间的显著关联。

主讲人简介：

张庆华，北京大学光华管理学院应用经济系教授、博士生导师。本科就读于武汉大学经济与管理学院经济学院世界经济系，后在美国布朗大学获得经济学博士学位，曾在伦敦政治经济学院、美国MIT以及美国德克萨斯州立大学奥斯汀分校访问。2017、2006、2005和2004年间曾担任世界银行短期经济顾问。主要研究兴趣包括城市经济学、公共财政、以及搜索与匹配。多篇论文发表在Review of Economics and Statistics、Journal of Monetary Economics、Journal of Public Economics、Journal of Urban Economics、Journal of Econometrics、Rand Journal of Economics、Journal of Development Economics 等国际学术期刊，曾获第九届全国高等学校科学研究优秀成果一等奖(人文社科类)、第八届全国高等学校科学研究优秀成果一等奖(人文社科类)等多项奖励。多次主持国家自然科学基金项目，结题项目获评特优，目前担任Journal of Urban Economics、Journal of Housing Economics和《经济管理学刊》编委。
